Many people think that LDS cinema started with the film “God’s Army”; however the LDS church has been producing films since the 1940s. These films might never have been released in conventional theaters, but film has been an important part of LDS culture for many years.

Eugene Curran Kelly was born on August, 23, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Taking on the screen name Gene Kelly, he was famous for his dancing roles in musicals during the 1940s and 50s. Two of his most notable performances were “An American in Paris,” (1951) and “Singin’ in the Rain,” (1952).

There is no doubt that these movie memories will continue, and deservedly so, to be thought of in this way.
